So, after a hiatus of almost two years, I’m trying to paint again. This is a start on one of the massive World War Two flak towers still standing here in Vienna. This particular one is in Arenbergpark.
Possibly finished; will sleep on it and decide tomorrow. Need to think of a title as well…
A bit of progress from last night, most of the darkest darks roughly in place. Enjoying this one so far, it’s nice to work big!
Had a go at another plein air piece today, but rain stopped play (this is Belgium after all). So thought I would post the block-in I did the other evening. This is of a marketplace in Pisa, from a photo taken there last year. I found the perspective quite challenging, especially of those vaulted ceiling arches. Still not sure if I’ve quite got it right.
Might be turning a corner with this one. Not quite so disappointed with it as I was last weekend anyway!
Very pleased to once again have some work in the AFAS annual exhibition. As usual it’s being held in the Mall Galleries, dates are 11-16 July. Try to drop in if you’re in London!
These are the paintings I have in the show.
Have been ridiculously busy for the last two weeks, so was pleased to be able to spend some time painting this weekend. Got a few more steps done (see what I did there?)
This is where I’ve got to so far…
And where I started from this morning.
Added a bit of colour, and then scraped most of it away with a palette knife; like the effect that gives.
We had an open house here in Belgium yesterday, and was very pleased to sell seven paintings. Thanks to all who bought one, and to all the other friends who visited. It was a lot of fun and I think we’ll do it again soon – perhaps with more vino next time!
