No rain today so got this one done.  The owner thought I was ‘casing the joint’ for a burglary…

A cloudy day but no rain, so managed to get this one painted.  I’ve passed this farm dozens of times on my way to work, about time I made a picture of it.

Painted from just off the road to Soignies on Monday.  It’s been raining non-stop since that evening, so no more plein air since then…

Just back from the annual trip to Tuscany.  Got a few rather mediocre paintings done.  Still have some more time off work so will be trying to get a few more under my belt, and hopefully pull the standards up a bit!

A plein air painting from a recent trip to Austria.

Extreme painting

Last two from the recent trip to Austria where, between bouts of falling down icy mountains, I managed to get half a dozen plein air paintings done.  The first was done near to the house we were staying in, during what the weather app on my phone rather dramatically called a snowstorm.

Falling snow, Kitzsteinhorn. Oil on board. 11 x 14.

The second was painted from the viewing platform at the top of Kitzsteinhorn.  The weather was pretty changeable, started out with low cloud, then cleared long enough for me to get started on this (probably over-ambitious) scene.  Then the wind got up and spindrift began blowing across the platform.  This made things rather entertaining, as the blown snow mixed with my paint and stuck itself all over the board I was using.  Pressed on long enough to get most of what I wanted into the painting, although I had to leave out the chairlift and its towers, along with a large group of intrepid / crazy skiers on their way down from just below the summit.

I finally packed up – nearly losing a lot of my gear as the tripod got blown over – when an onlooker pointed out that I was turning blue…

Two more little paintings from the short trip to Austria, some more to follow yet.  First was painted very quickly in failing light before dashing out to grab a schnitzel :)

After the storm. Oil on board. 8 x 10.

And this one at midday from about two-thirds of the way up Kitzsteinhorn.  It was just as cold as it looks…

Spending a few days in Austria with the boss for her birthday.  Permission was granted to bring my paints so, after a beasting on the slopes (my first time on skis for 20 years) I’ve been getting a quick plein air session in before last light.  The painting above was the first one here, more than a little rusty.  The one below was done on the following day, had got the eye in a little more with that one I think.  The photos aren’t great as taken with a phone, will get some better ones when we’re back in sunny (ha!) Belgium.

Photos replaced with scans of the paintings – much truer to the real thing as you can imagine!

Day off work today so managed to get out and finish a couple of small paintings. A very dull, overcast day and I really couldn’t get into my stride at all for some reason. Meh.
