Well I’ve been working on this one a bit over the weekend, and went for the limited palette option as you can see. Not easy working this way, but I think the sombre colouring suits the subject. I’ve used yellow ochre, cadmium red, titanium white and ivory black. Still lots to do, clearly, but a few things stand out to me as needing correction:  add some trees or similar to break up the outline of the distant church; reduce some of the darker patches in the mid-distance area to the right of the picture; put some more variety into the colours of the rocks in the bottom left; perhaps increase the value, just a little, in some of the deeper shadow areas. Maybe I’ll push a little red into those shadows.

Seems like a good palette for paintings like this though. First time I’ve tried anything quite so restricted, but it’s definitely worth some more experimentation I think.
